King of Kings - Hillsong

In the darkness we were waiting Without hope without light Till from heaven You came running There was mercy in Your eyes To fulfil the law and prophets

To a virgin came the Word From a throne of endless glory To a cradle in the dirt Praise the Father Praise the Son Praise the Spirit three in one God of glory Majesty Praise forever to the King of Kings To reveal the kingdom coming And to reconcile the lost To redeem the whole creation You did not despise the cross For even in Your suffering You saw to the other side Knowing this was our salvation Jesus for our sake You died And the morning that You rose All of heaven held its breath Till that stone was moved for good For the Lamb had conquered death And the dead rose from their tombs And the angels stood in awe For the souls of all who’d come To the Father are restored And the Church of Christ was born Then the Spirit lit the flame Now this gospel truth of old Shall not kneel shall not faint By His blood and in His Name In His freedom I am free For the love of Jesus Christ Who has resurrected me   This week we are reflecting on King of Kings by Hillsong which was written by Geoff Bullock. King of Kings is a worship song that reflects on the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus and our salvation.  Verse one talks about how we were in darkness, without hope or light and how Jesus came from the throne of glory to a cradle in the dirt. Verse 2 reflects on our redemption and reconciliation and how Jesus did not despise the cross.  He knew what he had to do.  He did it WITHOUT complaint.  He didn’t kick or scream either.  He could have said “nope, not interested, not doing it” but He didn’t.  He stepped into complete obedience.  For the sake of the world He made the ultimate sacrifice and died for our sins.

Hebrews 12:2 - The Passion Translation

We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection. His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his, he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation, and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!

Jesus endured the cross without complaint – for you, for me, and for ALL who would later come to repentance.  There could be no resurrection without the cross, no salvation without Jesus dying for us. Verse 3 and 4 are amazing as well.  I love how it describes all of heaven holding its breath until the stone had rolled away and how the angels stood in awe.  Because of Jesus complete obedience, because of His blood, because of His love for us.  He died for us and as a result we are redeemed. As I focused on this song, the magnitude of what Jesus had done amazed me.  I often take what He did, what He went through for granted.  There is no doubt in my mind that I could have done what He did.  Jesus did though – lovingly, willingly, for the sake of the world, for you, for me.   Don’t know about you though, I am thankful.
