Oh Praise Him

Berowrabaps   -

Hey church,

As part of using this space I’m hoping to bring to you both new and old songs that you may not have heard before. Some of these are songs that are close to my heart, others could be songs we do in the future!

The song this week we’re talking about Oh Praise Him by David Crowder Band. This song is nearly 20 years old now but I’ve loved it since it came out. David has taken time to beautifully craft the verses that naturally build into a wonderful crescendo of declaring truth and celebrating God in all of his splendour.

Turn your ear
To Heaven and hear
The noise inside
The sound of angels awe
The sound of angels’ songs
And all this for a King
We could join and sing
‘All to Christ our King!’

This verse is full of clever rhymes and repetition to drive home it’s point; Heaven is constantly celebrating our God. The angels songs are singing loud and we can participate with them in worshiping our God. This theme is repeated through the second verse as this time as we gaze upon heaven we in turn raise a joyous noise. Further encouraging us that everything is for Christ our King.

The chorus is then a simple call for us to join together to sing;

Oh praise Him!
Oh praise Him!
He is Holy!
He is Holy!

This song really is simple but powerful in it’s message. What I really love about this song is the way it sounds. The piano instrumental is beautiful, the drive into the chorus as he begins to sing the harmony instead of the melody is brilliant; every time it happens I can’t help but feel myself get caught up into the song. I love how they cut it back onto just simple vocals and an acoustic guitar at the end. It gives the song a real intimate feel that can often be hard to create in studio albums.

I do hope you enjoy the song, it’s close to my heart, I love to sing it and hope you find God’s presence with you as you listen.

Bless you all!
