Refresh Me – Leeland

Berowrabaps   -

This week we’re looking at one of our newer songs that we’ve started doing, Refresh Me by Leeland. More and more I am finding this song relevant for me and where I am at, and my prayer is that this would be true for you.

The song leans on the truth that God is our firm foundation, our shelter, a place of safety in the storms of life; what a fantastic truth to remind ourselves of in these times. I am finding the first verse a wonderful prayer to begin quiet times with;

You are my shelter from the hurricane

You are my rock, You are my shade

Never changing always the same

God refresh me

Echoing words from throughout the psalms (another wonderful place to be looking for comfort right now) this song starts not with where we’re at, not with all the problems of life but it starts by looking towards God. Who he is. His character. Corrie Ten Boom said this;

If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed.

If you look within, you’ll be depressed.

If you look at God you’ll be at rest.

That’s why we start by looking to God. Then the song acknowledges where we are;

When my burdens are breaking me down

And the enemy’s cries shake the ground

I hear your voice pierce the sound

Saying “I am with you”

The simple truth is this; wherever you are God is with you. In the thickest storm, in the hardest night, he is with us. Because of this we seek him, his presence, his refreshment. Echoing the words of Paul we are reminded that it is in our weakness that God is at his best, that’s where we can see the most of God, the best of God because then it’s not me who does the work but him.

So I lift my hands to you, I lift my heart to you

Refresh me, Oh God refresh me

I raise my weakness high in it you’re glorified

Refresh me, Oh God refresh me

The song then crescendos beautifully into the bridge where for me I am deeply reminded of the words of John the Baptist; I must decrease, he must increase. We sing of a trust in Jesus, in his ways, in his deeds. That he would take control, that he would lead us, that by his Spirit we would be filled and continue to follow him even in this season.

Words that are so right for the season that we are in today, but words that are so right for every season we will find ourselves in. The song is in our spotify playlist, but you can also listen to it here.

Many blessings friends,
