The Blessing – Kari Jobe

Berowrabaps   -
The Lord bless you
And keep you
Make His face shine upon you
And be gracious to you
The Lord turn His
Face toward you
And give you peace
Amen, amen, amen
As we receive, we agree, amen
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
Your family and your children
And their children, and their children
May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you
He is with you, He is with you
In the morning, in the evening
In your coming, and your going
In your weeping, and rejoicing
He is for you, He is for you
This is a beautiful song of blessing, and blessing, and blessing. A list of the ways in which God blesses us daily – being gracious to us and giving us peace. With that behind us, what can be against us? With our focus on these things, the trials of life get somehow smaller.
The bit that gets me is towards the end – may his favor be up on you, and a thousand generations. With those last 4 words, the magnitude of God’s grace and blessings towards us is made abundantly clear. I pray regularly for my family, and for my children. When they have children, I’m sure I’ll pray for them too – but a thousand generation’s worth? That feels like it’s beyond my ability to pray, but it’s easy for God! Deuteronomy 7:9 says “God keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations:. Psalm 105:8 say “He remembers His covenant forever, the word that He commanded, for a thousand generations”.
Walking with God now is an investment in future generations. When I’m long gone, God will remember me, that I was His, and He’ll continue to bless my generations. It blows me away that God invests so heavily in me that He blesses a thousand generations of my descendants, just because of my walk with Him now.
This scriptural song really is a blessing to all who hear it.
