Whole Heart (Hold me now) – Hillsong
Hold me now in the hands that created the heavens
Find me now where the grace runs as deep as Your scars
You pulled me from the clay set me on a rock
Called me by Your Name and made my heart whole again
Lifted up and my knees know it’s all for Your glory
That I might stand with more reasons to sing than to fear
You pulled me from the clay set me on a rock
Called me by Your Name and made my heart whole again
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
Once I was broken
But You loved my whole heart through
Sin has no hold on me ‘cause Your grace holds me now
And that grace owns the ground where the grave did
Where all my shame remains left for dead in Your wake
You crashed those age-old gates, You left no stone unturned
You stepped out of that grave and shouldered me all the way
Once I was broken
But You loved my whole heart through
Sin has no hold on me ‘cause Your grace holds me now
Healed and forgiven
Look where my chains are now
Death has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds that ground
And Your grace holds me now
Hello there friends,
This week we’re looking at Whole Heart, a song from Hillsong.
Originally I wrestled with the live version of the song for a few reasons, but recently stumbled upon an acoustic version and absolutely loved it. So now I’m excited to bring you all the reasons why I loved the lyrics of the song, as well as a great version of it to listen to!
This song is all about God stepping into our brokenness, our hurt, our pain, our loss, our struggles and about us stepping into that place; allowing ourselves to be vulnerable with God.
The opening contrast of a God, whose hands created the heavens, being invited to hold us, to hold our hearts. There’s so many great lines in the song but I “Lifted up and my knees know it’s all for your glory” is my favourite. As if the praise that we receive, the achievements we gain, the status that we earn is all for God’s glory, our position on our knees before him remind us of his greatness and our place before him.
I love the image of grace owning the ground where the grave did, as well as the picture of Jesus shouldering us all the way out of the grave and into new life. These pictures are there to help us trust Him again. We remember what God has done for us and so trust him to hold our hearts, to be vulnerable, to wrestle, yell, cry, fight and above all trust.
This imagery runs really well through the chorus as well, we see sin having no hold on us, because we are covered by grace. We who are a new creation in Christ are no longer bound by our past failures, our brokenness, our sins but instead Jesus makes us clean, pure, blameless in his sight. Death loses its power because God’s grace for us brings us new life; and that same grace which saves us from death, is the grace that holds us now.
What a wonderful picture.
Hope this song is a blessing to you; for the guitar is great, the pianos lovely and the simple harmonies work really well; it’s just a great song to listen to and soak in.
As always, much love and many blessings
