Joy to the World

Berowrabaps   -

Joy to the world, the Lord has come

Let earth receive her King

Let every heart prepare Him room

And heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing

And heaven, and heaven and nature sing

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns

Let men their songs employ

While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains

Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy

Repeat, repeat the sounding joy

No more let sins and sorrows grow

Nor thorns infest the ground

He comes to make His blessings flow

Far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found

Far as, far as the curse is found

He rules the world with truth and grace

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness

And wonders of His love, and wonders of His love

And wonders, wonders of His love

Well friends, it has come to the point in the year where I simply have to talk about a Carol! Joy to the world is one of the carols we turn to each year and so is well worth talking about!

First of all, it’s fairly simple to play! Which whilst this doesn’t sound like a big deal for any acoustic guitar player is a wonderful thing at this time of the year! But it’s obvious what this song is about; it’s about Joy. Joy that the saviour has come, Joy that the saviour reigns, Joy that because of him blessings flow, Joy that with Jesus comes truth, grace and righteousness.

This song is absolutely first and foremost a celebration of Jesus, who He is and what He brings. And it is so appropriate that we get excited about Him on Christmas! I always feel like we only get a few days to celebrate as Christians in the year. Obviously every day is special, and the ability to meet together and sing about Jesus each week is of course a joyous occasion but on Christmas and Easter Sunday we get two days in the year where we get to have a massive party.

Christmas, the day He was born and Easter Sunday, the day he rose. What two greater events could we be celebrating!

My favourite line of this song follows this theme really well and is hidden in verse two; Let men their songs employ while fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains all repeat the sounding joy. For me it’s almost as if even if every person on the planet joined in on the joy that would not be enough, even the rocks call out in praise and celebration to God for his goodness to us!

Looking forward to singing this song with you on Christmas!
